Product Notes

Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial is a renowned Spanish red wine made from a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah grapes. It’s produced in the Ribera del Duero wine region, which is known for its high-quality wines. This wine is aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels, which adds a complex aroma and flavor profile. On the nose, you can smell black fruit, tobacco, and spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied with notes of black cherry, blackberry, and vanilla, with a long and velvety finish. It’s an excellent wine to pair with red meats, stews, or aged cheeses. Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial is one of the most awarded wines in Spain, making it a must-try for any wine enthusiast.

Tasting Notes

Aromatic and mouthfilling, scented and flavoured with cherry liqueur, dark chocolate and ripe blackberries.

About the Winery

Abadía Retuerta

Abadia Retuerta is a classic Spanish wine company that was established during 1996. Today, it is one of the reputed wine companies in Spain, as its estates are located in what is known as the golden mile of the country. Located towards the north-central area of Spain’s Castilla Y Leon, near the Sardon del Duero village, the Abadia Retuerta wine estates are quite strategically located. You can find these estates right from the Tudela de Duero area till Penafiel.

Currently, these estates contain over 700 hectares, out of which close to 210 hectares are under vine. These have carefully-selected 54 vineyard plots on them. Out of these 200+ hectares of vineyards, Tempranillo is planted on close to 146 hectares, Cabernet Sauvignon on around 40 hectares, Merlot on close to 20 hectares and Petit Verdot on a very small plot of approximately 2 hectares.

The vines here are planted at an altitude of 2500 feet above sea level. The sandy and clayey soils, which are rich in limestone content, along with the continental climate help in growing different varietals of grapes that are rich in intensity and aroma. At the winery, extreme care is taken to follow natural techniques to process the grapes to retain their original character. The 5000-barrel capacity winery is constructed on a gravity-flow design, to avoid pumping of the grapes.

Today, this group has grown into a big hotel and spa, providing luxurious wine tours and relaxing packages to tourists coming here from across the globe. Apart from serving wine created from their own vineyards, the Abadia Retuerta restaurant also serves wines of other expert winemakers as well. Some of the popular wines here are:

L’Domaine White – terroir wine made from 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20%

Verdejo Seleccion Especial – considered to be the flagship wine of this label as it is made from the best of the red grapes grown in different vineyards
