Product Notes

Château Suduiraut 1er Cru Classe Sauternes is a prestigious and iconic sweet wine from the Bordeaux region of France. This golden nectar is crafted from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, grown in the renowned Sauternes appellation. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness, resulting in a wine that is rich, complex, and full of luscious honeyed flavors. Notes of apricot, peach, and orange zest dance on the palate, balanced by a refreshing acidity that keeps the sweetness in check. Château Suduiraut is a true masterpiece of winemaking, earning its place among the finest dessert wines in the world.

About the Winery

Château Suduiraut

Château Suduiraut is a prestigious winery located in the Sauternes appellation in the Bordeaux wine region of France. The vineyard is situated on a gravelly plateau overlooking the Garonne River, which provides ideal conditions for producing the famous botrytized dessert wine, Sauternes.

The winery's history dates back to the 17th century when it was owned by the Suduiraut family. The estate was eventually sold in 1831 and changed hands several times before being purchased by AXA Millésimes in 1992. The current owners have invested heavily in the winery, modernizing the cellar and vineyard management techniques while still maintaining the traditional methods of producing Sauternes.

Château Suduiraut boasts 92 hectares of vines, with Semillon being the dominant grape variety, along with Sauvignon Blanc and tiny amounts of Muscadelle. The vineyard practices are sustainable, with a focus on soil management and the use of natural treatments to minimize the impact on the environment.

The winery produces one main wine, the estate's grand vin, Château Suduiraut. This wine is known for its balance of sweetness and acidity, with flavors of citrus, honey, and apricot. It is aged in French oak barrels for 18-24 months before bottling.

In addition to the grand vin, Château Suduiraut also produces a second wine, Castelnau de Suduiraut. This wine is made from younger vines or grapes not selected for the grand vin, and is produced in a more approachable style with less aging.

The winery offers tours and tastings, allowing visitors to learn about the history of the estate and Sauternes winemaking, as well as sample the wines. The beautiful château and surrounding vineyards make for a picturesque setting for wine enthusiasts.

Overall, Château Suduiraut is a prime example of the excellence of Sauternes wine. The estate's commitment to sustainable viticulture, traditional winemaking methods, and attention to detail in the cellar all contribute to the exceptional quality of their wines.
