Andrew and Cynthia Hendry established the Coopers Creek winery in 1980, right at the centre of the Huapai and Kumeu wine regions. Here, wines that reflect New Zealand’s diverse climatic and viticultural conditions are created, with the same passion and integrity for 40 years.
Initially, the Hendrys formed a partnership with Randy Weaver, by using the grapes grown on his vineyard. A few years later, they started to develop healthy relationships with the owners of the nearby vineyards as well, to make use of some of the best grapes of this region. Coopers Creek classifies wines according to the areas where they were created. These areas include Kumeu-Huapai in Auckland, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Marlborough and Central Otago.
One of the special series of wines created by Coopers Creek is the Select Vineyard Wines. These are adventurous wines, quite different from any other wines created in New Zealand. Each of these wines is very different from each other in terms of expression, aroma and depth. A lot of importance is given to the source from where the grapes for these wines are created.
Some of the popular categories of these Select Vineyard wines are:
- Limeworks SV Hawkes Bay Chardonnay – Made from unique, pale gold Chardonnay grown in Hawkes Bay
- Bell-Ringer SV Gisborne Albarino – One of the most popular wines of this label; Medium-bodied and zesty grapes grown in Gisborne used for this
Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Viognier, Albarino, Arneis, Marsanne and Fiano are the varietals used for creating white wines. For the reds, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein and Montepulciano are used. The rose wine is created using a blend of Malbec and Merlot.
Apart from the vineyards, regions and varietals, you will also be able to choose wines from a series of ranges such as the Reserve, Select Vineyard, Classic and Whole Case Specials when buying Coopers Creek Wines.
