The wines created in the French region of Burgundy are considered to be the epitome of perfection and elegance by wine connoisseurs across the world. Domaine AF Gros is the perfect testimony to this fact. Created from a small farm named AF Gros in Burgundy, this wine label was founded by Anne- Francoise Gros in the year 1988.
Today, the family-owned farm creates high-quality wines, with Pinot Noir being their flagship varietal. These wines bring out the true character and expression of the Pinot Noir fruit. A major reason for the intensity of these fruits is because of the calcareous and clay soils found in the region where the vines are grown. Apart from Pinot Noir, the rare white wine varietal of Beaune is also used for creating wines at this winery.
The winemaking process followed at the AF Gros Winery is quite elaborate and traditional. Cold maceration of 4 to 5 days, temperature-controlled ambience, use of traditional vats and barrels and pneumatic press technology are some examples of the traditional mechanisms adopted here.
For the ageing process, French oak barrels are used. Here wines are aged anywhere between 12 and 18 months, depending on the fruits. These barrels are made from natural wood that comes from the forests of Troncais, Bertranges and Fontainebleau. 5000-litre vats are used for ageing generic wines (those of 60%) whereas barrels of 1 or 2 wines are used for ageing other wines (those of 40%).
Before the bottling process, the wines are filtered only if it is absolutely necessary. This is called the lenticular filtering process. During bottling, natural gravity is used for the same. No other glues or chemicals are used for bottling purposes at the AF Gros Winery. All the bottles are designed with a neck-width of 63mm only, in order to avoid spillage during pouring of the wines.
