Product Notes

Domaine Taupenot-Merme Morey Saint-Denis 1er Cru 'La Riotte' is a highly sought-after wine known for its complexity, depth, and elegance. It is produced by a family-owned winery that has been in operation for more than 200 years, and it is made using a traditional winemaking process, including manual harvesting, small batch fermentation, and aging in oak barrels. The resulting wine is characterized by its deep ruby color, complex aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and earthy tones, and a distinctive flavor profile that is both rich and silky. It is a wine that can be enjoyed immediately or aged for several years, making it an excellent addition to any wine collection.

About the Winery

Domaine Taupenot-Merme

Established in 1963, the founding and setup of Domaine Taupenot-Merme began after the matrimony of Denise Merme and Jean Taupenot. The winery remains located in the middle of the district of Côte de Beaune in the commune or village of Morey-Saint-Denis. Since its establishment, the Burgundian wine estate has produced wines of the highest quality and standard.

Gradually, Denise and Jean’s children, Virginie and Romain Taupenot, joined their parents in the winery. At that time, Domaine Taupenot-Merme operated via two different and distinct estates. They worked and functioned simultaneously from St Romain and Morey St Denis. It was in 1998 that they merged. In the same year, Romain took over the winery. It made him the seventh generation of the winemaking Taupenot family to continue their business and heritage as winemakers.

Today, Domaine Taupenot-Merme owns approximately 13 hectares of land. They remain split and spread across 20 diverse appellations in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune regions. In addition to that, the winery possesses several premier crus and key grand crus. They consist of Charmes-Chambertin, La Riotte, and Mazoyères-Chambertin. It allows Domaine Taupenot-Merme to acquire and maintain a beneficial and desirable balance between village and cru wines.

The wines produced by Domaine Taupenot-Merme express and deliver the characteristics and qualities of the terroir of their origin. On top of that, the drinks depict and symbolise a particular place, conveying their unique elements and aspects. The wines carry a unique signature of remarkable aromatics and a lovely silky texture. In addition to that, they bring with them a desirable sense of tannins and acidity. It makes the wines elegant with an excellent taste and aroma. Overall, Domaine Taupenot-Merme aims to produce wines that can represent their terroirs instead of the overwhelming winemaking style and process that the winery follows.
