Brolio, found in the Chianti area Classic, is known for its strategic location, climate, diverse soil qualities and rich terroirs. You might be surprised to know that this region contains over 19 different soil qualities. These soil types are categorised into five unique areas that are geologically far different from each other.
Located in hilly areas, the vineyards of Ricasoli can be found at an average altitude of around 200 to 500m above sea level. Since they face the southwest region, they experience a continental climate with very hot and dry summers all through the year. Sangiovese is the main grape varietal produced here, as the natural climatic conditions and terroirs are great for producing this fruit. Within a single territory (Brolio), Barone Ricasoli produces many types of unique and elegant wines, which bear testimony to the richness of the terroirs here.
The vineyards of Barone Ricasoli are located across these five regions:
Macigno Del Chianti, Casalferro Vineyard – Sangiovese, Merlot, Chardonnnay are grown on the Arenarie soils here
Tuscan Scaglia – Sangiovese is grown on the Argillite di Brolio soils here
Monte Morello, Colledila Vineyard – Alberese soils known for their clay content here are ideal for growing Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
