About Château Boutisse
Château Boutisse has a history of changing ownership throughout the years with each new proprietor making contributions, to its growth and success. Originally it was owned by the family until they sold it to Francois De Ligneris in 1970. Then Claude De Ligneris took over and managed the estate until 1996.
In 1996 Jean Paul and Annabelle Garcin acquired the winery injecting vitality into the property. They made investments in modernizing both the vineyards and cellars while still honouring the winemaking techniques that had established Château Boutiss's renowned reputation.
Presently their daughter Caroline Garcin Levêque proudly carries on her family's legacy as she oversees the production of wines that beautifully showcase Saint Émilions terroir.
The name "Boutisse" is derived from the Gascon word "Boustie," which means a farm. It refers to the farm where grapes were first cultivated for winemaking on this land centuries ago.
Legend has it that when François de Ligneris acquired the property in 1970, he stumbled upon a map depicting a piece of land called "La Boustie." Inspired by this discovery he decided to adopt this name for his brand giving birth to Château Boutisse. Today it stands as a tribute, to the region’s history and longstanding winemaking tradition.
Château Boutisse Winery is committed to environmentally friendly approach. They employ farming techniques that minimise chemical use and prioritise soil health. The vineyard also focuses on biodiversity by using cover crops and natural pest control methods to maintain a thriving ecosystem.
Located in the Bordeaux Saint Émilion region renowned for its climate and soil composition Château Boutisse covers over 40 acres of land. It cultivates grape varieties such, as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. The grapes undergo harvesting and sorting before being fermented using state-of-the-art winemaking equipment to ensure the production of wines.
