Château Fortia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Baron is a rich, full-bodied red wine that is produced in the esteemed Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in southern France. This wine is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault grapes that are grown on the estate's sandy and gravelly soil.

On the nose, Château Fortia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Baron is full of intense aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is rich and velvety, with flavors of ripe black fruit, warm spice, and a hint of leather.

This wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels, which adds complexity and depth to its flavor profile. It pairs well with hearty dishes such as beef stews, roasted lamb, and grilled meats. Complex notes of spice and graphite are underpinned by red fruit preserve. A very textured and silky wine with lovely, full concentration, the tight tannic thread gives it beautiful volume and remarkable length.

About the Winery

Located right in the heart of one of the most famous wine appellations in the world, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Chateau Fortia wine estate has a rich history and tradition that dates back to as early as 17th century. It was during the middle of the 18th century that this wine estate came under the control of Hercule Paul de Fortia. He and his son expanded the vineyard and started making wines here from the 19th century onwards.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape, in the French region of Rhone Valley, is considered as one of the best places for growing intense, concentrated and powerful grapes with high tannins. The main reason for this is that this appellation enjoys three diverse soil types – tertiary era sandy soils, cretaceous era limestone soils and quartzite pebble-rich terraces. Thanks to these soils, 13 different grape varietals are grown in a single appellation.

The 36-hectare Chateau Fortia Vineyard has dedicated 32 hectares to growing vines. Located in1 La Fortiasse, towards the southern part of Rhone Valley, this vineyard is a perfect example of a balanced ecosystem as well. Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvedre are the famous reds grown in this vineyard. You can also see parcels of whites that include Roussanne, Clairette and Grenache Blanc.

The excellent terroirs of this vineyard enjoy the cool winds of the mistral. As a result, the soils are exposed to warm and dry climate all through the year. All the vines are covered with unique, rounded pebbles. It is interesting to note that these pebbles cover almost 90% of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine estate.

The main role of these pebbles is to gather the warmth during the day and distribute the warmth to the vines during the night, to ensure that the fruits become more concentrated than before. The management and the winemaking team at the vineyard and winery give a lot of respect to the land. Therefore, all practices done here are in line with the environment’s safety.
