About the Winery

Elena Walch

Located in the premium Alto Adige Wine Estate in Italy, Elena Walch is a brand of wine that is known for its unique blend of traditional and modern winemaking methods. Though she was an architect, she started pursuing winemaking after her marriage, because she got married into one of the most prestigious and well-known wine-making families in Italy. Today, the wine business of this brand is run by Elena’s daughters, Julia and Karoline Walch.

This brand owns around 60 hectares of vineyards, and they follow the principle that the grapes cultivated by them should be perfect representations of the terroir and soil quality. According to this family, they believe that the quality of the wine gets decided right when they assess the potential of the vineyards that they choose. Italy’s top 2 vineyards, Vigna Castel Ringberg located in Caldaro and Vigna Kastelaz located in Tramin, are owned by the Elena Walch brand of wines.

Situated along the backdrop of the majestic Renaissance castle built in the 1620s, the Castel Ringerbg is the largest and grandest vineyard in the Alto Adige Estate. It covers an area of 20 hectares and is marked by a very rich quality of the soil that helps in the cultivation of premium quality of grapes year after year. The common types of grape varietals cultivated here are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Riesling, Lagrein, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio.

The Vigna Kastelaz, located in the wine-rich Tramin village in Italy, is considered to be one of the rarest and unique vineyards in this estate. This is because the chalky and alluvial soils along with the microclimatic condition, make this vineyard quite a beauty. This vineyard is mostly used for cultivating Gewurztraminer and Merlot varietals.

Other than these, Elena Walch cultivates grapes in many small vineyards as well. They are located in various regions such as Barleith, Altenburg, Wadleigh and more.
