About the Winery

Ktima Biblia Chora

Situated on the slopes or hills of Mt Pangeon of Greece’s Kokkinochori Kavala, Ktima Biblia Chora is a renowned winery established by oenologists Vangelis Gerovassiliou and Vassilis Tsaktsarlis in 2001.  It started as a 70-acre land and now occupies about 570 acres of organic vineyard, surrounded by numerous private properties under the possession of the Estate that lies at an altitude of 380m. The primary aim of the winery is to produce and distribute vintage wines stamped with the symbol of the Paggaio’s distinct ecosystem to represent the uniqueness of the drink.

The viticulture tradition of the winery’s residence dates back to the oldest evidence of winemaking in Greece. Some records state and present events as old as 4300 BC. These traditions, along with the ideal climatic and soil conditions, led the two oenologists to the area in 1998. They felt that the land was perfect for the development and growth of grapevines to the highest standard and decided to construct the winery. The area has a Mediterranean climate with refreshing summers and mild winters. The sea breeze from the Aegean Sea and the Paggaio mountain range influence the ambience, making them suitable for plant growth. The temperature difference between night and day is significant, allowing for the grapes to get gradual benefits.

At Ktima Biblia Chora, the vineyards get handled with extreme and special care. All processes, including the cultivation and the vinification, receive the best elements of the producers’ experience and knowledge. The system and style of operation at the winery combines the region’s traditional facets with technological aspects to get the best out of the land and the workers. The soil of the vineyards is calcareous, barren, clayey, stony, and has sufficient drainage. The processes involved in farming and cultivation incorporate and implement sustainable and organic methods.
