About Marimar Estate
Marimar Torres, one of the prestigious winemaking families in the world, wanted to set up its legacy in California. The search for the perfect location ended in the Russian River Valley appellation, also known as the Green Valley appellation, located in the southern part of Sonoma County. Since this plot is located at a distance of just 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean, this plot is blessed with a cool climate all through the year. Therefore, the climatic conditions are ideal for growing some of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals in California.
The Don Miguel Vineyard is one of the unique vineyards in California. When Marimar Torres purchased this land in 1986, she started planting it with vines. Today, this vineyard comprises an area of 60 acres; 30 acres each are dedicated to growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals.
The winery, a Catalian farmhouse, was constructed in the year 1992. Situated on a hill, this scenic winery has a total capacity of 15000 cases. The three barrel rooms present in the winery are individually temperature-controlled. The vinification methods followed here are absolutely flexible; therefore, the winemaking team has 100% flexibility to try different techniques to bring out the best of the fruit’s original character, flavour and aroma.
The Dona Margarita Vineyard, named after the Torres family’s matriarch, Margarita Riera de Torres, is located in the Sonoma Coast of Appellation Origin. You can find this appellation between Freestone and Occidental. This appellation is located just about 7 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The cool microclimate of this place makes it ideal for planting Pinot Noir clones.
This vineyard covers an area of 180 acres, out of which 60 acres are under the vine. The Pinot Noirs grown here are unique because the thin sandy loam soils are of volcanic origin. The presence of fractured sandstones and marine sediments adds to the fertility of the soil here.
