Product Notes

Querciabella Camartina is a Tuscan red wine that perfectly encapsulates the essence of the Chianti Classico region of Italy. This wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which are grown using organic and biodynamic principles on the Querciabella estate. Made with exceptional care and attention, the wine undergoes an extended maceration period and is aged in oak barrels for 18 months before bottling. The result is a wine that is deep ruby in colour, with aromas of black cherries, plums, and leather, and a palate that is full-bodied, complex, and well-structured. Querciabella Camartina is a wine that perfectly balances tradition and innovation, and is a true representation of the excellence and dedication of the winemakers.

Tasting Notes

With remarkable intensity, Camartina 2018 is testimony to the harmonious vintage. Dark, succulent fruit stand out in a finely detailed bouquet where black cherries, plums, currant and myrtle merge with delicate floral notes and sensations of warm spices, herbs and mint. The Cabernet Sauvignon, which reached perfect maturation in 2018, slowly reveals its savoury quality and leads both the flavour profile and sumptuous structure. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and supple, with firm tannins and tangy acidity in perfect balance with the fruit concentration. Its complexity and persistence craft a satisfying textural finish.

About the Winery

Querciabella

The history and story of Querciabella began in 1974 when wine lover and industrial entrepreneur, Giuseppe (Pepito) Castiglioni, purchased a single hectare of land on a hillside in Tuscany. He poured all his dreams and aspirations into the plot, expanding it significantly and increasing its fame. Giuseppe wishes to produce rich and elegant wines from grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Burgundy, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc, and Bordeaux. It was what set the basis for the establishment and growth of Querciabella.

With Querciabella’s growth, the winery incorporates beneficial techniques and methods. For instance, the estate took over an organic viticulture approach in 1988 under the supervision and guidance of Giuseppe’s son, Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni. Since then, Querciabella has become one of the leading wine producers and suppliers globally.

In the 2000s, Sebastiano contemplated the winery’s responsibility to preserve and uphold the environment. It led to the implementation of biodynamic practices in the vineyards and cellars of the winery. Today, Querciabella operates with the philosophy of maintaining and promoting balance. The wine estate believes that the complex biological diversity network functioning in its vineyards set the foundation of its winemaking processes. Thus, the staff work while respecting nature; they eliminate the use of agrochemicals that may disrupt the ecosystem and pollute the land. Instead, they use sustainable methods such as cover crops to attain their goals. It, in turn, allows the wines produced by Querciabella to represent their terroir and its attributes.

The vineyards owned by Querciabella expand over 74 hectares of superior Chianti Classico vineyards. They remain spread across the Radda, Gaiole, and Greve communes. In addition to that, the winery’s 32 hectares of plot in Maremma represent Italy’s most significant extension of organic-certified vineyards. The winery implements organic and biodynamic viticulture and vinification practices on all its lands.
