About Seresin Estate
When it comes to wines from New Zealand, there is a touch of freshness, old-world-charm and authenticity to them. Wines from Seresin Estate are no different. This label is a result of the winemaking passion of its founder, Michael Seresin.
Seresin started his career in the film industry and went on to become the director of photography in several reputed projects. His love for the soil, nature and organics led him to establish the Seresin Estate, in one of the premium wine regions of New Zealand, the Marlborough Valley.
During 1992, Seresin set up his winery with the sole aim of making wines organically, even when many other growers had not adopted this technique by that time. Currently, apart from organic methods, biodynamic techniques are also being used in the winery to ensures that the wines retain the true character and flavour of the fruits produced in this region.
The grapes for these wines are produced in 167 acres across 3 vineyards in Marlborough Valley. Some of the popular wines created here are:
Sauvignon Blanc Organic – Made from 91% Sauvignon and 9% Semillon
Chardonnay Organic – Made from 100% Chardonnay
Chiaroscuro Organic – Made from 55% Riesling, 37% Pinot Gris and 8% Gewurztraminer
Leah Pinot Noir Organic – Made from 100% Pinot Noir
Marama Sauvignon Blanc Organic – Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Reserve Chardonnay Organic – Made from 100% Chardonnay
Rachel Pinot Noir – Made from 100% Pinot Noir
Raupo Creek Pinot Noir – Made from 100% Pinot Noir
At the vineyards of the Seresin Estate, all the grapes are sorted by hand, before they are fermented using the natural/indigenous yeasts. Since biodynamic practices have started here, the open fields of the vineyards have cow pat pits to prepare for these techniques. Here natural elements such as manure, chamomile, nettle, dandelion and oak bark are used in these pits for winemaking.
