Product Notes

The Yangarra Estate Vineyard Ironheart Shiraz is a bold and robust wine that showcases the unique terroir of the McLaren Vale region in South Australia. Made from 100% Shiraz grapes, this wine boasts deep and intense flavors of blackberries, plums, and dark chocolate, with hints of pepper and spice adding complexity to the palate. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, which impart subtle notes of vanilla and toast. With a full-bodied and velvety texture, the Ironheart Shiraz has a long and lingering finish that will continue to evolve and improve with age. This wine is a true expression of the passion and dedication of the winemakers at Yangarra Estate Vineyard.

Tasting Notes

Ironheart is the flagship Shiraz from Yangarra’s single vineyard estate in Blewitt Springs at the northern edge of McLaren Vale. The vineyard’s northern aspect, higher elevation and sandy ironstone soils produce Shiraz with immense concentration and finesse.

About the Winery

Yangarra Estate Vineyard

Yangarra Estate Vineyard Winery is a treasure nestled in the McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia. It holds a captivating history spanning over 75 years since its establishment by Bernard Smart in 1946. The winery owes its name to Smarts wife, Yangarra. Originally the estate was utilised for farming. Smart quickly recognized its exceptional potential for grape cultivation and planted the first vines in 1947.

Following Smarts retirement, the Johnston family purchased the estate in 1969 and further expanded the vineyard while enhancing the winemaking facilities. In 2000 Kendall Jackson, a wine company based in California acquired the estate. Under their ownership they enlarged the vineyard to its size of 170 hectares and modernised the winery with cutting edge equipment.

In 2012 Australian entrepreneur Peter Fogarty took ownership of this estate and made substantial investments towards sustainable practices on the property. Yangarra Estate Vineyard Winery proudly embraces biodynamic vineyard management as part of their commitment to sustainability and preserving biodiversity on site. Every bottle produced by this winery showcases world class wines that truly embody their terroir. The unwavering dedication to the practice is palpable, with every sip.

Yangarra Estate Vineyard Winery is dedicated to practicing sustainability and eco-friendly methods. They have obtained biodynamic certification ensuring that they rely on natural techniques to maintain the vineyard and encourage biodiversity. Additionally, they implemented water conservation strategies to minimise their environmental footprint.
Situated in South Australia’s McLaren Vale wine region renowned for its Mediterranean climate and diverse soil compositions, the vineyard spans across a 170 hectare property. Of this area 90 hectares are dedicated to vineyards featuring an assortment of grape varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan.

Yangarra Estate Vineyard Winery boasts a standing heritage exceeding 70 years. Although ownership has changed hands many times throughout the years, their commitment to crafting wines that truly reflect McLaren Vales distinctive terroir has remained unwavering. Presently recognised for their practices that prioritise the environment's well-being while fostering biodiversity, this winery continues to make an impact.
