Product Notes

Glenelly Estate Reserve Red Blend is an exceptional wine known for its complexity and elegance. The wine is created by blending the traditional Bordeaux varieties; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. These grapes are sourced from Glenelly's estate vineyards located in the picturesque Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The wine has a deep ruby color and an intense, complex nose, with aromas of dark fruit, spices, and oak. On the palate, it's rich and full-bodied with flavors of black cherry, cassis, and hints of tobacco and vanilla. The tannins are firm and well-structured, giving the wine a long, elegant finish. This wine is perfect for pairing with grilled meats, stews, and rich, hearty dishes.

Tasting Notes

The 2013 vintage is all about elegance with underlying power. Bold aromas of blackberries, cranberry and blackcurrant are followed by hints of savoury, spicy plum with touches of cedar and floral tones. The palate entry has good richness with fine tannin supported by the ripe fresh fruit and hints of spice. Very balanced oak integration with a fresh long finish

About the Winery

Glenelly

The history of Glenelly dates back to 1783. It was when the first wine with its stamp got released in the market. Located on Simonsberg’s southern slopes in Stellenbosch, the winery’s records start under the ownership and leadership of May-Eliane de Lencquesaing. She realised and recognised the immense potential that the land held and focused all her energy and efforts on developing the estate and its vineyards. After overseeing and managing exhaustive studies on the property and the weather conditions, the founder planted several grape varieties. They consisted of Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Chardonnay.

The soil in the vineyards of Glenelly primarily gets composed of decomposed granite that has a deep base made of clay. In other words, it is of an oak leaf type. The estate receives blessings from a broad and balanced range of factors. It can include parameters like sun exposure, rainfall, wind currents, etc.

The winery remains nestled and located in between two hills. For that reason, the vineyards benefit from the refreshing and gentle breezes that flow throughout the day. The combination of all the climatic factors of the region creates a beneficial microclimate. It proves advantageous to the grapevines significantly. It allows the fruits to ripen and mature slowly and the grapevines to grow up healthy and strong. The grapes develop a rich flavour, aroma, and colour. This nature of the fruits permits the winery to produce wines that have a substantial elegance, structure, and finesse. Glenelly aims to work with minimal intervention and interference in the vineyards and cellars. That is why they do not acidify their wines. Their drinks deliver to the drinkers a sense of fulfilment, pleasure, and enjoyment. They leave them wanting one more sip to satisfy their cravings and enjoy the taste once again.
