What can a good friendship do? It can help you set up a company and run it successfully as well. That’s what happened in the case of the Australian wine company, Lethbridge. Three friends, Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Adrian Thomas, who had interesting careers in the science & medicine industry, joined together to set up this wine label.
This wine company is located in the Moorabool Valley in one of the rich wine regions of Australia, Geelong. Many factors such as soil type, temperature and climatic conditions play an important role in creating Letherbridge wines. A great degree of importance is also given to the quality of vineyards. This is because the makers believe that the quality of wines greatly depends on the quality of the soil and vineyards.
Lethbridge has partnered with local growers in areas such as Henty, Heathcote, the Pyrenees and The Great Western regions. This way, this brand uses the best of grapes grown in these unique terroirs to create wines that are flavourful and balanced at the same time.
The Lethbridge Estate Vineyard, whose history dates back to 1874, was replanted in 1996 by the founders of Lethbridge. When it comes to winemaking, only biodynamic and organic practices are followed at this estate vineyard. Located at a distance of 30km from the main wine area of Geelong, this vineyard enjoys a continental climatic condition.
The vines are planted at an altitude of 250m above sea level, and it is neatly divided into parcels based on the soil type that is found here. You will find clay, sandy clay and rocks on these vineyards, which make the terroris unique and give a nice flavour to the grapes grown here. Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Viognier, Sangiovese, Gamay, Chardonnay, Brunello and Merlot are some varietals that are grown here.
