The history of the Pisoni Family Vineyards dates back to 1952, when Jane and Eddie Pisoni exhibited their passion for farming. The couple’s dedication to the soil and the aim to bring out the best from their lands were passed on to their children as well. Their son, Gary, developed the Pisoni Family Estate, a few years later.
Today, this brand’s wines are available in two labels – Pisoni Estate and Lucia. Many wine experts consider the family’s vineyards as Grand Cru Sites and California’s authentic cult vineyards today. This is because of the care that the family takes towards the vines. Gary Pisoni, who is at the helm of affairs of the vineyards here, is quite passionate about his vines.
Located in a site that has natural extravaganza such as mountains, rivers, rocks and more, the family estate focuses on low yields and creating vines that are true representations of the character of the terroirs. Gary started planting grapes here during 1982, when there was no water source at all. When everyone thought Gary was making a huge mistake, he turned this place into one of the premium wine sites of California, purely because of his passion. Since then, there have been improvements in the harvest s and quality of viticultural practices followed here.
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah are the three main varietals that are planted on the three vineyards of the Santa Lucia Highlands. These vineyards are located among the dense fog-covered mountains of Salinas Valley. The details of these three vineyards are as follows:
- Gary’s Vineyard – This is a 59-acre vineyard located right in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Mostly Pinot Noir and few Syrah varietals are planted here.
- Soberanes Vineyard – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah are planted here.
- Susan’s Hill Vineyard – Several small lots of Syrah can be seen here.
