Tasting Notes

Palate - A superb example of Awatere Sauvignon Blanc. The Awatere Valley is a bit cooler than the rest of Marlborough, so the wine exhibits less overt tropical fruit and instead a more European note that is tight, elegant and fresh. Aroma/Bouquet - White peach, gooseberry, citrus, mineral and sherbet.

About the Winery

SPOKE

SPOKE is a certified sustainable wine collaboration by Liam Steevenson MW, and Kiwi winemaking legend, Ben Glover.

'Our wines aren’t a human interpretation of place, but the unbroken voice of it.

We are actively inactive in an attempt to let the intrinsic characteristics of the land speak. We encourage roots to flourish  in soils rich with biota and try to ferment using only indigenous yeast, at temperatures determined by nature itself. When intervention is necessary, we do it gently. SPOKE is not an exercise in environmental box-ticking, rather it incorporates those practices that enable us to produce the best wine possible. The byproduct of this, is land positively impacted by our winemaking. SPOKE is a celebration of place, a true reflection of its importance and a statement of our commitment to protecting the land. We are the “Kaitiaki” (guardians) of this land for our future generations.

Too often, a wine’s narrative begins and ends once it leaves the place where it was produced. We want to continue its story by committing to an apprenticeship scheme that provides opportunities to a new generation of aspirants. People who we can help to educate, but just as significantly from whom we can learn from too. Some of the sustainable things we do to mimise our impact are; organic biodiversity, responsible shipping partners, recycled packaging and glass, plant-based ink and relying on 90% hydro energy'.
