Product Notes

Tenuta J. Hofstätter Barthenau Vigna S. Michele Pinot Bianco is a premium white wine that comes from the picturesque region of Alto Adige, located in the North-East of Italy. This wine is produced with 100% Pinot Bianco grapes, which are grown in Barthenau, one of the most prestigious vineyards of the region. The wine has a straw-yellow color with greenish hues and exhibits a complex and intense aroma of white flowers, citrus fruits, and minerality. On the palate, Tenuta J. Hofstätter Barthenau Vigna S. Michele Pinot Bianco is elegant, fresh, and well-structured, with a perfect balance between acidity and fruity flavors. This wine is ideal for pairing with seafood, white meats, and pasta dishes.

Tasting Notes

An extremely elegant wine with impressive structure and a full, complex bouquet, well-balanced on the palate with excellent mouth feel and fruit underpinned by firm, mouth-watering acidity.

About the Winery

Tenuta J. Hofstätter

J Hofstatter is a traditional, family-owned wine estate in the Alto Adige region of Italy, with its history dating back to 1907. During this year, Joseph Hofstatter (originally a locksmith), started a winery along with his wife, and began producing wines under this label. Over the years, the management of winery passed many hands. Today, this brand stands proudly as the only family-owned winery in this region to have vineyards on both sides of Adige River, carrying forward a rich legacy of winemaking.

The young generation of the Hofstatter family members started expanding the business further, apart from making a lot of changes and innovations in the Mazon vineyard. By 1992, this estate got itself a new and advanced winery.  A few years later, Martin Foradori Hofstatter, who was in control of the estate at that time, purchased the Vigna Rechtenthaler Schlossleiten vineyard, located just above Tramin. This vineyard grows only Gewurztraminer varietals exclusively.

By 2014, Martin wanted to make the most use of the highly premium Riesling varietal. This passion made him acquire the Riesling vineyard in the nearby Mosel region in 2014. In this particular vineyard, Martin co-owns a Riesling plot with Weingut Dr. Fischer. Just four years back, in 2017, Martin expanded his vineyards again, when he purchased the Maso Michei vineyard in Trentino. Thanks to these expansions, Tentula J Hofstatter has become one of the biggest family-owned vineyards in this region.

Pinot Nero, Gewurztraminer, Lagrein, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco and Schiava are the common grape varietals used for making Hofstatter wines. Located on both sides of the Adige Valley, these vineyards extend from the mountains of Valle dei Ronchi to the southern Trentino region. Mosel, especially, is a proud possession of this brand, as it is considered as one of the world’s famous plots for growing the Riesling varietal.
