Product Notes

Trapiche Estación 1883 Malbec is an exceptional red wine produced by Trapiche Winery in Argentina. This Malbec is named after the year when the original winery was established, emphasizing the rich history and tradition behind this wine. It is made from hand-harvested grapes from the estate's vineyards located in the foothills of the Andes, which give the wine its unique character and flavor. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for nearly a year, resulting in smooth tannins and a complex bouquet of red and black fruit flavors, complemented by notes of vanilla and spice. The wine pairs well with grilled meats and hearty stews, making it a perfect choice for any special occasion.

Tasting Notes

Argentinian Malbec, bursting with raspberries and red cherries beneath a lovely, lasting fragrance of violets.

About the Winery

Trapiche

Trapiche, located in the extremely wine-rich region of Mendoza in Argentina, is a winery that was set up during 1883. This area comprises of over 1000 hectares and it is not surprising to know that this winery is the largest wine producer in Argentina. When Tiburcio Benegas bought the Trapiche winery during the 1880s, it was only a very small vineyard. Today, the place, owned by Grupo Penaflor, encompasses many vineyards from the Mendoza region.

The Trapiche winery is a blend of modern, sophisticated technology and traditional architecture, which makes it ideal for producing premium quality of wines. The winery is a Florentine style of building, located strategically at the foothills of the Andes Mountain Range. With over 1225 hectares of area of grapes cultivated by 300 farmers under control, the vineyards are constantly aiming at improving the quality of wines produced here.

Oak casks are used for fermenting certain wines to retain the exact flavour of the fruits used. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Syrah, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio are some varietals where oak casks are used. With the high altitude of the Mendoza River and the exquisite temperature of this region make it ideal for growing many types of grapes.

Biodynamic principles are used for cultivating the vineyards of the Trapiche Winery. The ecosystem balance and biological diversity of the vineyards are maintained at all times, as the focus is more on recovering the bacterial activity of the soil.

Apart from the varietals mentioned above, the Trpaiche winery also focuses on the production of single-vineyard Malbec wines every year. This Malbec, created by Daniel Pi, is a token of appreciation for the small vineyards in Mendoza that grow the Malbec varietal. Thanks to its diverse range of wines and traditional winemaking techniques, the Trapiche winery plays a critical role in adding credibility to the Argentinian wines, in the global platform.
