Wine producing regions
The most famous wine producing region in Argentina is Mendoza. It accounts for more than 60% of the wine produced here. The other areas that produce wine in Argentina are San Juan & La Rioja and the other north western parts of the country. Let’s look at each one here:
Mendoza - This is the largest wine producing area in Argentina. With the average height of the vineyards at about 1970 to 3610 feet above sea level in Mendoza, you can be assured of the quality of wines that are crafted here. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Italian varietals are grown in plenty here.
San Juan & La Rioja - The climate here is hotter than Mendoza and is ideal for the Syrah & Douce noir grape varietals. The La Rioja area is where you will see the aromatic variety of Moscatel de Alexandrias and Torrentes Riojano.
North western parts - The wine producing areas of Argentina in the north western areas include Catamarca, Jujuy and Salta. Known for their distinct mesoclimate, these areas are known for their full-bodied grape varietals such as Torrontes Riojano (white wines) and Cabernet Sauvignon & Tannat (red wines).
Patagonia - This is the part of Argentina that has a cool climate and chalky soils. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Semillon and Torrontes Riojano are grown here.
