Austria is one of the smallest wine-producing countries not only in Europe but in the world. The Gruner Veltliner is the flagship grape varietal of the country. Almost 80% of the 45000 hectares of vineyards in Austria are dedicated to growing white grape varietals, the flagship varietal in particular. Laurenz V is an Austrian wine company that was established in 2004 by Laurenz Moser V in partnership with Dieter Hubler.
Laurenz Moser V’s family had already been in the winemaking business for over 400 years. So, he learnt a lot by referring to the techniques of his forefathers. The main idea of forming this company was to tell the world about the speciality of the Gruner Veltliner and to exclusively work on producing more of this flagship varietal of Austria.
The grapes for the Laurenz V’s wines are cultivated in the Kamptal region. Known for its excellent terroir and landscape, this region focuses exclusively on Gruner Veltliner. A small area is dedicated to Riesling as well. The white varietals are grown in two plots here – Kamptal DAC and Kamptal Reserve. Regardless of the plot you choose, the grapes grown here are intense, full-bodied and rich.
These vineyards are located on the banks of River Kamp. It covers an area of 3800 hectares, out which a majority is dedicated to Gruner Veltliner and a small plot is dedicated to Riesling. If you ever wondered the reason for the creaminess and richness of the fruits grown here, look no further than the soil quality. The clayey, loamy and loess soil gives unique richness and texture to the fruits.
The wines created here are classified into four ranges. They are Forbidden, Singing, Friendly, Charming and L5. Each of these is unique and makes you remember the true class of the Gruner Veltliner, that you thought you had forgotten long back.
