However, after he passed away in 2001, Johann Rupert, his brother, took over the ownership rights in 2003. After the change of owners, the winery witnessed a surge in its potential and production.

Johann went into an intense pursuit of quality and excellence. He did so to honour his brother. He changed the estate’s name from L’Ormarins to Anthonij Rupert to depict his passion and ambition. It was all because his brother’s dream was to see the region of the Cape produce and distribute world-class and high standard wines. Johann constructed and incorporated various state-of-the-art technological advancements and winemaking facilities into the winery.
