If you have tasted wines worldwide, you would know that South African wines are known for their uniqueness. The grapes grown in South Africa are known for their full-bodied and elegant character. Kleine Zalze, located in the wine-rich region of Stellenbosch, is one such rich wine label, which is an excellent blend of richness and comfort.
The history of the Kleine Zalze wines dates back to 1695, when the South African wine industry founder, Simon van der Stel, planted the first vines in the region, which is within 3km distance from Stellenbosch. The beautiful climatic conditions and the diverse soil qualities found in the vineyards here are suitable for producing red and white wines. Though the 90-hectare vineyard’s first vines were planted in 1695, the first wine from this label came out in 1997.
Like most popular wine labels globally, Kleine Zalze gives importance to three important factors while making its wines. They are vineyards, cellars and the people. The ranges of wines produced by this label are:
KZ Family Reserve – These are flagship wines of this brand, and the grapes grown in selected single-vineyards are used for this range. Cabernet For this limited quantity range of wines, Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Shiraz varietals are used.
Vineyard Selection – These are made from excellent grapes grown in premium, single vineyards. Grenache, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz are used for these.
Cellar Selection – Sauvignon Blanc, Cinsault, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay are used for these accessible wines.
Zalze Range – Chenin Blanc, Mourvedre, Viognier and Viognier are grown on the Zalze estate are used for this range.
Foot of Africa – Carefully selected Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Viognier are used for these affordable wines.
MCC – These are wines made from the traditional Method Cap Classique style, and the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are used for this range.
Cleefs – This range is dedicated to Nicholas Cleef, who acquired Zalze range of wines in 1695.
