Product Notes

Deovlet Zotovich Family Vineyard Pinot Noir is a complex and elegant wine that captures the essence of California's Central Coast. The grapes for this wine are sourced from the Zotovich Family Vineyard, located in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, known for its cool climate and calcareous soils that influence the grapes’ flavors. The result is a wine with a deep ruby color, intense aromas of red and black cherries, violet and earthy notes. The palate is bright and smooth, with flavors of raspberry, cranberry, vanilla, and spice. The wine is aged in French oak barrels to add subtle nuances of oak and tannins, making it an ideal match for grilled meats or roasted vegetables. Overall, Deovlet Zotovich Family Vineyard Pinot Noir is a remarkable wine that delivers balance, complexity, and finesse.

Tasting Notes

Fragrant with earthy cherry notes, a touch of florality, savoury stoniness, a touch of pine cone, black tea - this is strikingly aromatic. Very red fruited on the palate, yet with a note of something subtly savoury. Still quite tight this nevertheless has lovely flow, with fine grained, sleek, crystalline fruit that you sense is just waiting to open up. At just 13% abv this is very alive and snappy yet also has some texture and the promise of more. Very fine intensity. And brilliant fruit. Intellectually stimulating, full of energy, yet also very easy to drink

About the Winery

Deovlet

The story and history of Deovlet remain intricately linked with its founder and owner, Ryan Deovlet, a reputed winemaker. He first got introduced to the wine industry and learned of the craft while working across several vineyards after he came across the Willing Workers on Organic Farms program. It allowed him to gain knowledge and learn new skills while working in New Zealand and Australia. Soon after, Ryan went around the Yarra and Hunter Valley before moving to Mornington Peninsula to work on the 2004 harvest at the named Turramurra Estate. His endeavours till then allowed Ryan to shift to Hawkes Bay and Central Otago to develop his pruning skills with the existing vineyard crews.

In 2005, Ryan returned to California, and for the next two years, he worked with the owner of Stephen Ross Wine Cellars, Stephen Dooley. It, in turn, motivated Ryan to pursue higher education in winemaking and learn about the various aspects and facets of wine development and its associated styles. Soon after, Ryan acquired the post of assistant winemaker in 2007 and began working at Red Car Wine Company. He learned invaluable tips from David Ramey, a consulting winemaker, Dr. Daniel Roberts, a reputed soil scientist, and Ulises Valdez, a well-known vine grower.

In 2008, Ryan moved to Mendoza City in Argentina to work under Paul Hobbs, a globally-acclaimed winemaker. In the spring of the same year, the former returned to California and shared his dream of becoming a pioneer of Pinot Noir in California with Richard Sanford. It led to the establishment of Deovlet Winery in 2008.

Deovlet gets its grapes from several vineyards. It includes the Zotovich Family Vineyard, La Encantada, and the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. All the plots have excellent climatic and soil conditions responsible for the growth of outstanding grapevines.
