Product Notes

Gaja IDDA Etna Rosso is a premier Italian wine from one of the country's most respected winemakers, Angelo Gaja. This wine is made exclusively from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown in volcanic soil on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. The result is a wine with a complex and intense aroma featuring red fruit, spices, and a hint of minerals. On the palate, Gaja IDDA Etna Rosso offers a smooth, velvet texture with a perfect balance of acidity and tannins. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant taste of pepper and hazelnut. This is a highly acclaimed wine that is perfect for pairing with grilled meats, game, and aged cheeses.

Tasting Notes

Intense and bright ruby color. Violet, black cherry and mulberry notes rise from the glass. 2019 IDDA has a clear expression of ripe and sweet fruit on the palate, yet shows accents of tomato leaves and oregano. With a charming and juicy body, characterized by harmony and freshness, with ripe and well-integrated tannins. The finish is lingering.

About the Winery

Gaja

Established in 1859, Gaja is a family-owned winery in Italy. Giovanni Gaja founded this winery, and his great-grandson, Angelo Gaja runs the estate today. The family produces grapes in the 250 acres of vineyards it owns in Italy's popular wine region, Piedmont. This estate is located exactly in the districts of Barbaresco and Barolo.

In 1994, this family-owned estate became the proud owner of the Pieve Santa Restituta estate in Tuscany's Montalcino area. This 40-acre estate in Tuscany is dedicated to growing Sangiovese varietals. In the next year, Gaja acquired its second Tuscan Wine Estate called Ca'Marcanda in Bolgheri. This significant estate stretches to 150 acres, and is dedicated to growing many international grape varietals, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.

The current owner, Angelo, should be given a lot of credit for putting Piedmont on the global map today. He introduced many path-breaking winemaking technologies in his winery, for all the range of wines he produces – Brunello and Super-Tuscan. Though a family-owned estate, Gaja is one of the main reasons why people across the globe love Italian wines. The distribution wing of Gaja is responsible for importing wines from some premium regions like Champagne, Bordeaux, California and Chile, and improving their popularity in Italy.

The Barbaresco is the flagship wine of Gaja Wine Estate. It is made from the indigenous Nebbiolo varietals collected from over 14 Barbaresco vineyards. Some of the other popular wines from Gaja are:

Costa Russi – Made from 95% Nebbiolo and 5% Barbera, this wine is made from single-vineyard grapes.

Some of the Barolo wines of Gaja are:

Sperss – Made from 100% Nebbiolo grown in the Serralunga vineyard

Conteisa – Made from 100% Nebbiolo grown in Cerequio

A few other interesting Gaja wines include:

Darmagi – Made from 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc
