About the Winery

Ktima Gerovassiliou

Ktima Gerovassiliou is one of the reputed wine companies in Greece. It has been in business since 1981 and has managed to earn a name for itself in the winemaking industry in Greece, thanks to its traditional & modern winemaking methods. The vineyard, where these popular wines are created, is very well-maintained.

The vineyard is located on the slopes of the Epanomi Hills, quite close to the popular city of Thessaloniki. Right inside the vineyard, you will find a well-equipped and sophisticated winery. The location of this winery will help the time taken to transport the grapes, thereby retaining their flavour and aromas. At the estate, the winemaking philosophy is to introduce modern winemaking techniques and traditional methods to produce experimental wines of great taste.

Some of the technologies followed here to retain the true flavour of the fruits are the pneumatic press of the grapes during winemaking, pre-fermentation with skins on for the maceration of the whites, usage of stainless steel vats for whies & oak vats for reds, temperature-controlled fermentation process and underground cellars.

The vineyard covers an area of 71 hectares and it is the single vineyard from where the wines are produced under the label. The Mediterranean climate of very hot summers and mild climatic conditions of this place is heavily influenced by the sea breeze and mountain breeze that flow from the Pieria beaches, Mount Olympus and Thermaic Gulf.

Harvesting is done by hand at these vineyards. It is ideal for growing many indigenous and foreign grape varietals. The most popular indigenous whites of this place are the Malagaousia and Assyrtiko. Among the reds, Limnio, Mavroudi and Mavrotragano are the indigenous varietals that are quite popular here. All of these indigenous varietals have a rich history that is reflected in the wines of this label. Among the international varietals, the grape varietals used are Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Merlot.
