Product Notes

Tahbilk 1927 Vines Marsanne is a fine Australian wine that takes its name from the year the vines were planted – 1927. Due to the age of the vines, the grapes have an intense depth of flavor and a complex aroma with a distinct note of honeysuckle. On the palate, this vintage marsanne is full-bodied with a luscious texture and a rich, nutty almost honey-like taste. The subtle acidity and minerality make this wine well-balanced, and the age-worthy tannins impart an elegant structure that lingers with a long finish. This is a rare and exclusive wine that exemplifies the quality of the Tahbilk estate in Central Victoria, Australia.

Tasting Notes

Complex aromas of mineral, lemon and orange citrus aromas are accompanied by fresh hay overtones. Zesty notes of lemon, grapefruit, toast and classic rich honeysuckle weave through the textured palate, beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity.

About the Winery

Tahbilk

Victoria, in Australia, is one of the richest wine areas not only in Australia but in the world. This is the place where you can locate some historic wineries producing wines that spell class, elegance and heritage in every single bottle. Tahbilk is one such historic, family-owned winery in this region. It was established in 1860 and has been carrying on the family’s rich winemaking legacy to date.

It was during 1925 that the Tahbilk vineyards were purchased by the Purbrick Family. Ever since, over five generations of this family have been owning the estate and managing the affairs here. In the aboriginal language, the word tahbilk, refers to a place that contains many waterholes. This is quite true, because the location of these vineyards is very close to the Goulburn River. With over 1000 hectares of river flats, backwaters and creeks, this vineyard is blessed with an abundant supply of water at all times.

Today, the Tahbilk vineyards cover an area of 200 hectares under vine. Most of the varietals that are popular in the Rhone valley are cultivated here due to the similarity in the climatic conditions, soil quality and terroir texture. Some of the varietals that are mostly grown here are whites such as Viognier, Roussanne & Marsanne and reds such as Grenache, Mourvedre and Shiraz. Some other varietals that are grown on small plots here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Merlot and Verdelho.

In the year 2009, when the fifth-generation Purbrick member, Katherine, joined the winery, she introduced the carbon-neutral strategy, which focuses on sustainable and minimal intervention in the winemaking processes right from the vineyard to the bottle. With around 150 years in the field of winemaking, it is no surprise at all to note that Tahbilk wines are loved by wine connoisseurs all over the world.
