Contero was formerly the Lombardini family property. Today, the estate is owned by the Marenco family. These are specialists of Brachetto and Moscato. The estate stands on land measuring 11 hectares and remains among some of the best producers of the most delicious and invigorating Brachetto d’Acqui and Moscato d’Asti. To make Moscato d’Asti, the best grapes are picked for use, which could explain the tantalizing outcomes that the estate has achieved so far.
The vineyards are located in Strevi in an amphitheatre. This is one of the most amazing zones for the growth of Moscato in the region of Piemonte. Here, there are 4800 vines for every hectare, and they are guyot trained. The vines are situated on steep Maarl hills. The soil has sandstone layers which are ideal for the production of grapes. To make it even better and authentic, harvesting is done by hand. This is usually done in mid-September. Wooden boxes are used for the harvest.
The vinification process is very important and is handled with great care. In this process, grapes are fermented after being pressed gently. Temperatures are kept low to ensure the fragrance is at its best. In the fermentation process, filtration is done several times. Most of the wines made at Contero are bottled under pressure to ensure a slight sparkle is maintained. The wines produced are not the same. Every vintage has its own uniqueness based on different factors.
