Product Notes

Mazzei - Castello di Fonterutoli Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva is a rich and elegant Tuscan red wine that is well-balanced and full-bodied. It is made from a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes, which are grown in the scenic vineyards of the Fonterutoli estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva is aged in oak barrels, which impart flavors of vanilla, toasted oak, and spice to the wine. On the palate, it boasts flavors of black cherries, red currants, and hints of leather and tobacco. With its long and smooth finish, this wine is perfect for pairing with hearty meat dishes, pasta, and aged cheeses. It is a true standout in the world of Chianti Classico wines.

Tasting Notes

Fresh, tannic, with aroma of berries, strong structure, earthy and intense taste

About the Winery

Mazzei - Castello di Fonterutoli

Castello di Fonterutoli refers to a winery owned by the Mazzei family since 1435. It has served as proof of their incredible achievement, extending for over twenty-four generations. In other words, the family has lived and toiled on the land their whole life. In addition to that, their long-standing history of almost six hundred years has made them one of the oldest yet most renowned Italian wine businesses.

The property of Castello di Fonterutoli passed on to the Mazzei family in 1435 with the marriage of Madonna Smeralda Mazzei to Piero di Agnolo da Fonterutoli. It allowed the holding to become a part of the estate. Since then, the subsequent generations of the family have put in their best efforts. They have strived to grow the scale of the land and the winery’s fame.

Castello di Fonterutoli has followed a philosophy over the years. However, minor and required changes have made their way into it. The overall purpose is to produce distinctive and unique wines having a passion and spirit renewed over the generations. The winery uses this belief to promote local varieties of vines. They earn for it to serve as an identity and expression of the region, showcasing its beauty and diversity. Castello di Fonterutoli implements and incorporates sustainable agricultural practices to ensure so.

The winery makes various improvements while considering the delicate and unstable hydro-geologic balance. Overall, it prevented and eliminated all elements that could lead to soil erosion. On the other hand, Castello di Fonterutoli helped maximise the region’s water reserves.

The vineyards owned by Castello di Fonterutoli spread over 290 acres. The agricultural practices and methods they implement ensure the highest quality fruits and wines. The drinks deliver a perfect balance of taste, color, elegance, poise, and aroma that expresses the standards of their terroirs.
