Product Notes

Buitenverwachting 1769 Muscat is a dessert wine hailing from the Cape Winelands of South Africa. This sweet and luscious wine is made from Muscat grapes that are carefully hand-selected for their extraordinary concentration and richness. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 11 months, imparting a gentle hint of vanilla and caramel. The palate bursts with a rich and complex blend of honey, apricot, and dried fruits, that lingers long in the finish. This wine is perfect to pair with desserts like apple tart, crème brûlée, or cheese, and will add a touch of indulgence to any occasion.

About the Winery

Buitenverwachting

There are very few wine labels that live up to their tag line. The South African wine label of Buitenverwachting is one of them. It stays true to its tagline, “Beyond Expectation.” This wine estate is located at 12km from False Bay, on the scenic slopes of Constantiaberg. The original history of this estate dates back to almost 1773. However, the place witnessed many changes in ownership to date.

The first instance of vine planting was done in 1825, when Ryk Cloete planted the first 90000 vines here. After many changes, the Mueller Family, currently manages the vineyards here. Sauvignon Blanc is the most common varietal planted in these vineyards.

Some of the popular white wines of this label are:

Buiten Blanc – Made from Sauvignon Blanc that has unique flavours of gooseberries and green peppers

Chardonnay - Made from full-bodied Chardonnay with citrus touches

Sauvignon Blanc Constantia –Made from light-flavoured Sauvignon Blanc with a flavour of green figs and gooseberries

Here are some red wines created by this label:

Christine – This a Bordeaux-style of wine created using a lovely blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is dominated by flavours of red cherries and black currant.

Meifort – This is a complex red wine made from a red blend. It comes with ripe cherries, spicy oak and tobacco flavours, which make it very popular among all wine lovers.

The southern vineyards of this wine estate are also the coldest of all. The Sauvignon Blancs produced here are extremely intense in flavour. Therefore, they are used to produce the limited editions of wines. For all Bordeaux-style of red wines, grapes grown in the northern vineyards with full exposure to the sun, are used. These wines are dense, fresh and complex. You will notice a visible difference in the wines created using grapes grown on these parcels.
